deviantART

the bottom line

Wed Aug 3, 2005, 9:04 AM
The bottom line is, Angelo and the current deviantART administration is able to neither address this community's needs nor allay its qualms - and they apparently don't want to, either. It has lost twelve staff members, including Scott, in a matter of six days time. 14% of the staff left immediately because of Scott, and I believe that as the truth becomes even more clear, there will be a few more resignations.

The bottom line is, the administration doesn't care about us.

Richard ($lolly) says the staff is "strong and united". You've got to be kidding me Rich. Losing 14% of any staff is a huge loss in the space of six days, especially when you consider the mass number of staff that have resigned in expectation of this during the past year.

Look at the rest of the staff, especially those explicitly hired by Angelo. What have 85% of them done? Anything? There is virtually no community involvement from any of the Core Administrators other than $lolly, and now only at a muted level. Angelo fired the head of Community development and then posts his recent journal commanding us to show community love? Come on Angelo. Are you a part of this community? We are showing the love - just not to you. Our message to you has been loud and clear; you've still got your earplugs in.

Look at the "Creative Staff" listed in my shoutboard. Other than ¢starvingartist, who designed v2 (though it should be noted, has done absolutely nothing while on staff) have any of this creative group shown any results let alone productivity? Mostly every member of the staff appointed by Angelo, especially those working at "deviantART HQ" have very dubious job titles; we can only hope they're getting paid for doing anything, because Angelo has kept all business matters secret, despite his claim that the administration "don't keep secrets".

Who is Angelo hiring on our subscriptions? What's going on at deviantART Headquarters? Why won't Angelo give us answers to our questions?

The bottom line is, the administration doesn't care, and they've said so clearly in their silence. Angelo has not only slapped Scott in the face, but now he's said we're meaningless fools who will forget what he did.

Angelo has lied to us. "[P]lease send me any questions at all you have about this aspect of deviantART, and I will be glad to answer them: we don't keep secrets.

Then open your mouth and speak, Angelo.

:pointr: Update 1: As °euphoria has said, `twosilverstars has just resigned.

Perhaps he figures there are enough "who cares? I'm sick of hearing about it!" people out there to keep DeviantArt running.

I'd like to think he'll learn his lesson when all the respectable artists leave for greener pastures, but I know he won't.

Comment, because you care.
Share your kindness, not your hate.
Love the art, before yourself.
That's the thing that the people who keep claiming that "we're tearing the community apart" are missing: the biggest artists and most respected deviants here in the senior members especially are the ones taking a stand and saying "Hey, we're not going anywhere but we're not doing anything until you give us the truth."

Angelo has opted not to give it, but the law will force his hand. The fight is far from over.

Endless is my vow, under the azure sky, boundless autumn...
My question is ... how long do you think they will take to find replacements for all these lost admins, or if they ever will at all.

That'll be a true show of what they think of the community. Without the staff, this place is a plain jane as the next art community where you don't know the staff members or care.

That is one thing I always liked about deviantART, the ability to get to know the staff members better and to actually become friends with them. No matter when you joined.

When you've got nothing to lose, then baby you've got it all.
Angelo will probably bring in more outsiders like he's done with a large percentage of the staff he's hired.

The staff is key. Re: your latest journal, I'd wish you wouldn't leave. With the legal business just beginning, this mess is far from resolved.
