I'm asking because I've got a free subscription to it as part of my student status here at Penn State. What do you think of it, both overall, and compared to other services like iTunes?
Even if you don't have it, do you have any recommendations? What should I get my hands on?
i really didn't like napster because i couldn't move the files that i downloaded. If i tried to move the files to a different part of the computer or play them with something like winamp 7 times out of 10 they wouldn't play.
I use a program called Audacity to digitally copy the songs into standard mp3 format so I can use them how I please without having to worry about Napster's limitations. I'm already paying for the Napster service through Room and Board fees, so I don't feel qualms about copying them like people copied video cassettes.
that was the only thing i didn't like about napster, other than that it was friggen wicked no queing for downloads and such. They don't have the biggest selection tho
You wouldn't want to hear my suggestions But you know what I find ironic is how they are giving out free subscriptions for penn State students. Napster's demise when it was free was all the college pirate rings. I believe that's how Napster was started actually...

I meant...it was large college pirate rings that really drew attention to it..if i;m not mistaken....but hey...that's really cool Room and board + free napter sub!

First off, it's a beautiful thing that you got Napster for free at Penn State. But just remember this off the Napster site "It is necessary to maintain a Napster subscription in order to continue access to songs downloaded through the Napster service."
If you like classical then one of my favorites is "Die Moldau" by Bedric Smetana. Nobody's heard of him, tis sad. I love Nobuo Uematsu's works for the Final Fantasy series that were made into orchestral arrangements (Final Fantasy 6 in particular). Harvey Danger is an excellent band. Of course, this is only some picks from my extremely eclectic taste in music.

Also, Penn State's got a contract with Napster, so it's not free to all students here, it's technically a part of room and board.
